Corporate responsibility in Africa requires a certain sensitivity from foreign corporations. Despite the allure of Africa’s natural and mineral resources, the most precious treasure is found in its people. There is an abundance of oil, diamonds, cobalt, gold, uranium, tantalum, chromium, manganese, tungsten and platinum. Sixteen of the thirty-three metals necessary to run any industrialized society, are only found in Southern Africa. The rich fertile soil provides tropical fruits, rare medicinal herbs and exotic woods. But the sickness of Africa has always been due to external causes. Africa’s possession of large quantities of rare materials has always placed the continent in a state of theft and pillage. A constant state of war over resources has created immeasurable human suffering.
