A Travel Tale: Cross-Cultural Communication at its Finest

My husband and I were traveling on an Asian adventure that visited four countries including: South Korea, China, Vietnam, and Singapore. We were there to complete a program requirement for the Thunderbird MBA program. The purpose of the trip was to interact with businesses in foreign countries to understand different business environments. Unfortunately, we had a scooter accident and our trip quickly turned into a lesson in cross-cultural communication.

I recently got married, and while I hadn’t thought about cross-cultural communication so much prior to meeting my husband, it now is a regular occurrence.  My husband is Brazilian and has lived in the U.S. for nearly 6 years.  He is well-traveled, and well-spoken in English.  On a day-to-day basis we don’t have many communication mishaps. If we do, they aren’t anything major.
